Setting the Example

When you exercise you set a good example for your kids to do the same, which could mean a better future for them. Exercise can easily be part of their lives. They can do this by playing and being physically active. Kids exercise when they have gym class at school, soccer practice, or dance class. They're also exercising when they're at recess, riding bikes, or playing tag.

Benefits:
Have stronger muscles and bones
Have a leaner body
Be less likely to become overweight
Decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes
Possibly lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
Have a better outlook on life
Sleep better
Handle the physical and emotional challenges

The percentage of children who are overweight have more than doubled over the past 30 years. Parents need to ensure that their children are getting enough exercise. All children 2 years and older should get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise on most, preferably all, days of the week.
